Fake Combiners

As if having a catagory of knockoffs wasn't enough, we also have to sub-divide the combiners. :-) There are several types of combiner knockoffs. Back in the day, they came from Taiwan. Later on, they came from Korea.

Now, they come from China. :-) Since there's already a Korean page covering this stuff (thanks, Steve!) we'll focus on the vintage Taiwan KO combiners. Later, we'll do a bit on the ones coming out currently (both regular size and 1/2 size combiners).

Vintage Fakes

Check out the Auto Change gestaults! Quite the mish-mash. A teal Silverbolt, with two Combaticons and two Technobots. :-)

Fake Diaclone Devastator

As described on the Pre-Devastator page, there was a spot-on accurate KO of the Construction-robo (minus the copystamp, of course). These fakes came in a giftset box, and individually boxed. Be careful:

Another fake Bruticus: Part of the vintage Auto Change line, these units came either individually boxed, or in giftset format. I've highlighted Onslaught below (nice that the launching mechanism is still intact. :-) Et-tu, Japanese engineering?)

New Fakes

Over the last couple of years, we've seen a spate of knockoffs of all the combiner teams. At first, it was several differnt versions of Devastator (yellow, green, orange) at places like Big Lots. Then we started seeing a KO red Defensor at Shopko. Pretty soon a Menasaur (minus two cars) and two colors of Abominus began showing up. Our Easter basket has had a slightly-differently-stickered Aerialbots set every year for the last couple of years at Walmart. Somebody stop the madness!
