Fred's Tomy Starriors Page!!

Starriors Comics

The Starriors comic series were the beginning and the end of characterization for this wonderful but short-lived line. There was a marvel series of four comics that told the story, as well as small series of 6 comic pack-ins with the figures that adapted some similar themes. Below are small thumbnails of each comic series. In addition, at the bottom of this page are a series of seldom seen vendor promotional materials that were used to entice retailers to buy into the starriors line.

The story goes thusly: "Earth is devastated by deadly solar flares. Realizing his danger, Man creates the Starriors- intelligent Protector and Destructor robots, with brain centers molded into man's own image. He programs the Protectors to prepare the blighted earth for his return, and the Destructors to guard it from invasion by aliens and mutated monsters. Then Man retreats beneath an armored battlestation to pass the blistering epoch in suspended animation, promising someday to return.

Millenia pass. The Starriors develop their own civilization and much of their original programming is lost. Finallly most remember Man only as a legend. But Slaughter Steelgrave, leader of the Destructors, knows that Man exists. He enslaves the Protectors and, certain that re-emerged Man would threaten the very existence of the Starriors, he declares the desert surrounding the battle station a Forbidden Zone.

Then the Protector Hotshot finds an artifact that proves Man exists, and sends him and a band of Renegades on an impossible quest- to find and awaken Man!"

Vendor Promotional Materials

It's interesting to note some of the promotional materials used to entice retailers to buy into the Starriors line. In the flyer pictured below, for example, they're basically telling retailers to get on the bandwagon before their competitors leave them behind, promising a television show, comic series, and over 12 million in sales of Starriors product annually.

I think we know what happened to the tv show. :-)
